General information about the Moscow State Law Academy


Moscow State Law Academy  (MSLA) is the recognized leader in the Russian Federation in quality teaching and research in every branch of law.
Today the Academy is one of the largest law schools in Russia. Since its foundation the Academy has awarded its degrees to over 170000 graduates. Its student population in Moscow and in five branches in other cities is about 17 000 including over 500 postgraduate students seeking Candidate (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Law Degrees. Every year over 3000 graduates leave the Academy as law specialists.
The Academy aims at preparing highly qualified lawyers to work in all walks of life: courts, prosecutors’ offices, law enforcement and correctional institutions, state and administrative bodies, advocacy, public notary offices as well as in consultancy and advisory services.
The Academy’s profile includes undergraduate and postgraduate full-time, part-time education and extra-mural (by correspondence) learning. The training period for a ‘Specialist’ Diploma in Jurisprudence varies from 5 (full-time studies) to 6 years (part-time and extra-mural studies).
Specialisations: Civil Law, Constitutional (State) Law, Criminal Law, Private International Law, Public International Law, Forensic Expertise.
The Academy has 26 chairs with over 400 teaching staff, including about 100 professors many of whom are well known in the international legal community. They deliver over 40 major courses and nearly 90 special courses covering practically the whole range of law subjects.
All members of the academic staff, apart from teaching, are active in research and publish annually dozens of monographs, textbooks, manuals, etc. which are widely used by other law schools in Russia and abroad. They also participate in national and international debate and policy-making in legal and related fields. 
To meet target requirements MSLA offers individual and group internship and academic training for foreign law students and lawyers in various law courses as well as Russian General and Legal Language.
